Reverse Engineered Components for the Automotive Motorsport Industry

Recently, a client from the automotive motorsport industry contracted Abrasive Waterjet to assist them in reverse engineering a series of six components that were meant to be applied to an automotive racing application. Before manufacturing of the final pieces was begun, we used our advanced water jet cutting technology to process a series of templates cut from materials such as acrylic, plastic, and wood. Employing these materials was a cost efficient way of testing the process before any more expensive measures were taken. Once the templates received client approval, the final components were constructed from metal.

Employing our water jet cutting services, we were able to uphold a tight (±) .003 inch precision tolerance. The components were manufactured to possess a thickness measurement range of .125 to 1.25 inches. After the prototype units were cut and formed, we then indexed all the various mounting holes to correct locations. Up to one dozen cavities were meticulously cut into the body of every component.
